Anyone out there can help me by giving ways wildlife extinction impacts our world.?

Need assistion for a presentation can some one help me?

Give the relationship between deforestation and wildlife extinction

Give estimations of the current and potential impact of deforestation on world cultures.

Last Describe methods that could be (or already are being) implemented to preserve the present level of aquatic biodiversity.Anyone out there can help me by giving ways wildlife extinction impacts our world.?
Well, I'm obviously not going to write the paper for you, but I'll give some bits of information that I'm aware of.

Relationship between deforestation and wildlife extinction is pretty obvious. As the forests and habitats for wildlife disappear they are forced to vacate or adapt. And since adapting doesn't happen overnight, we are more likely to see the wildlife numbers drop. Without their habitat they simply cannot maintain steady numbers.

The impact on world cultures is somewhat the same. The cultures that rely on wildlife for food, clothing and trade (there still are some) will need to change their daily life or will be forced to move elsewhere. Of course if they move elsewhere they will simply deplete their resources in their new environment. The only way to avoid that is to do whatever we are capable of doing to prevent the dying off of our wildlife.

As far as what is being implemented now, it's fairly well known. Every state in the US has limits and restrictions. Like here in New York, simple things like hunting limits, fishing limits and protected land all play a part in the preservation of wildlife. As far as aquatic life is concerned, simple fishing limits play a good role. When a fish species is foreign and will negatively impact the surrounding aquatic life, it's published and noted by avid fishermen and if seen or caught, the foreign species is removed. Of course if you want more information on things like that, Wikipedia is a great place to go.

Hope that was some help.

Is Ashton's 18x Zoom Nikon P80 suitable for wildlife photography?

Focal length wise, sure ... all you have to do is learn how to get around the shutter lag issue ... see Ken Rockwells little piece on that.

Whats are some good arguments for euthanasia of wildlife?

Invasive species, over population, limiting factors in the environmental setting, and to try and keep the balance in nature that humans have corrupted. I personally think that carefully controlling hunting seasons and skilled hunters are a better choice, which provides meat and hide to a family or a shelter. Hunters have provided more money towards the preservation of habitats that environmentalists per year.Whats are some good arguments for euthanasia of wildlife?
well one of the biggest I can think of, is it controls animal population. So many people get killed in car acidents every year due to deer . As long as there are as many people living on this planet, there will be developing land, where deer and other animals are getting ran out of, I love animals but at some point you have to control there population, they dont take birth control.Whats are some good arguments for euthanasia of wildlife?
there are none for the mass killing of any species. however controlling animal populations is necessary. large populations create food and water shortages to sustain life for large herds. The american Indian preserved the bison population by hunting. since bison are not loners, an infected bison could infect a large herd and they could all die.
okay I am going to get this off my chest ANIMALS ARE NOT OVER POPULATED FOR THE LAST TIME

WHY

close your eyes and think of any animal that has babies and they live there for many years and their babies have babies and then people decide to move in and these animals are endangered because for the last few decades they have been hunted and now we decied to build more homes and more malls and buildings and then they have no more land to live on because the only place they lived their whole lives was taken away all because someone wanted to build a home there when there are plenty of houses that sit in the market for years collecting dust. The animals comeback to once was their home and get hit by cars and killed by people because they think they are over populated the cougars we have in the united states is a perfect example of what I just described
I see two good arguments for hunting and population control but they do not address euthanasia. Unless the animal is suffering from man made causes it should not be euthanized.
We wouldn't need it if hunting regulations would be loosened a little
Tht's difficult. What is the situation(s) about?

The best Hunting/ Wildlife filming camcorder?

I am looking at getting a new camcorder. I want it for personal use as well as filming my hunting expeditions. I am working with a budget and no knowledge of what to look for.

I want to be able to edit some of the footage so do i have to go with a mini dvd or do the others allow this too?

I have looked at the canon Vixia HF100 or the Elura 100.

Any suggestions or information would be very helpful. The best Hunting/ Wildlife filming camcorder?
If you are going to be out and about with your camcorder forget mini dvd it will cause you nothing but problems. to get good quality video you will have about 20 min's for each disk, also they do not like being bumped and knocked about. HDD cameras don't like it either.

so now you are down to Mini-dv or SD cards. SD cameras require less power so the battery will last longer. The cards are not that expensive, so its esy just to swap them when it becomes full, quality is ok, not the best but ok.

Mini-dv (tape) I think is still the best format. very easy to edit on your pc, down side is that for 10 Min's of video it takes 10 Min's to capture to your pc. I do not know of a editing package that will not edit the captured video from a mini-dv camera.

They are robust, handle knocks, and bumps, when the tape if full just change it, tapes are cheap, and you can reuse them or keep the footage on them.

My choice is for Mini-dv But that's only my opinion

Have a look here there is some interesting help

Good luck

  • What will be the effect on us and wildlife if forests disappear one day?

Environmentalism because it does take into consideration the need to clear dead trees, underbrush and crowding will destroy most of our forests in less than 100 years. If we shift to the healthy forest program of conservation through logging of old wood and planting new we will continue to have both healthy forests and a continual supply of wood products for industry.

http://www.fs.fed.us/projects/hfi/What will be the effect on us and wildlife if forests disappear one day?
    Srinidhi,

The following will be some of the dreadful effects of complete deforestation:

    (1) First of all, all the plants and animals which depend completely on forests will become extinct.

    (2) Soil erosion will increase. Thus, more and more amount of the topsoil will be carried away by rain water.

    (3) There will be a considerable reduction in rainfall as forests both aid vapourization and attract clouds.

    (4) It is trees that absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. Due to deforestation, there will be a significant increase in the proportion of carbon dioxide in the air and a significant decrease in the proportion of oxygen.

    (5) There will be no more wood available for making of furniture and paper.

    (6) Many medicinal plants will become extinct. This will have a big impact on the pharmaceutical industry. What will be the effect on us and wildlife if forests disappear one day?
Forests provide the very necessary green cover which protects soil from erosion. It provides us wood, which is the basis of many industries like paper. And wood is also a material on which we depend for our furniture, doors and windows. The forest cover makes the air fresh by providing lot of oxygen to the atmosphere. The transpiration from plants provide humidity to the atmosphere and helps in bringing more rainfall and making the land moist. Many animals and birds live in the forest. If forests get depleted these animals would perish.
Well you see when forests disappear there will be no trees and hence extremely reduced amounts of oxygen and more CO2. And there will not be much rain of course since its due to trees that most rain occurs. And wild life will perish and so will we.
Many many, creatures will die due to the effect and food chain, we will have no more lumber, meaning no more fire, pencils, paper, ect
We will adapt to the climate change. The earth is always changing, sometimes the change is an improvement.
we all will die a very hellish death.

I've heard that a career in wildlife biology is competitive...?

What can I do while in college to increase my chances of getting a decent job in the field? Can I get a decent job in the field with only a Bachelor's, or should I look into getting a doctorate?

I'm already a member of The Wildlife Society (Ball State Chapter) and I can semi-comfortably speak Spanish...I also plan on eventually getting an animal-related job as soon as I can find one. Is there anything else I can do?I've heard that a career in wildlife biology is competitive...?
wildlife biology is a very competitive field and the more schooling you get the better because it puts you one step ahead of the Competition. another thing that helps in this field is the people you know so i would recommend that you do all you can to meet professors and other people working in the field to help gt your name out there. book smarts aren't everything too Field exp goes along way so try and get into some projects even if you can only do a little or have to volunteer

I'm not a professional just looking for a simple camera to photograph wildlife at a distance?

Most wildlife photography is done with a 35mm camera using long telephoto lenses starting at about 300mm and going up.

You will find that more and more, wildlife photographers are moving over to digital bodies that support the lenses that they already own.

There are many reasons for this switch, but two have to do with the large amount of film that was used while the photographer is shooting rare or unusual images of nature (high cost of film and developing). A second is, by using digital cameras, the impact on the environment is reduced. Less chemicals are being released into the environment both in the manufacturing and developing of film.

George Lepp has a school, workshops and seminars, that are dedicated to wildlife photography.I'm not a professional just looking for a simple camera to photograph wildlife at a distance?
Depends on your budget! But then you knew that...

    1. Look for cameras that have at least 5 to 6 mega pixel resolution

    2. I presume this is not a ';wildlife in a zoo'; situation so look for a camera with an optical zoom of at least 6x. 10x is good.

    3. Go for a standard brand.

The rest is up to your fancy. Enjoy!I'm not a professional just looking for a simple camera to photograph wildlife at a distance?
For a ';simple'; camera, I figure you mean a point and click. I have three Kodak camera that I love. Each one has over 6mp and 10X optical zoom. One has 12X optical zoom. Ignore the digital zoom, that's worthless.

My Kodak Z650 has extra zoom lenses that you can screw on to improve the shooting distance.

But, if you have the funds, go with a digital SLR.
I would say any of the Nikon Brand would do well. I have a Nikon D50 and its great for just about all types of photos. I'm planning on getting a 55-200 lens so that I will have more range. I also have the Nikon cool pix L3, its got some really fun features but its a little slow on the uptake.

If you really want to move forward in photography I would say getting a camera that you can grow into would be a good chose. If you just want to point and shot forever then a cheaper one would work for you.
    Get a Sony Cybershot .
I don't know what you mean by SIMPLE camera. You might consider the one I own. The Sony CyberShot DSC-H2. Lots of zoom at 12X optical, 6 megapixels, very good on batteries and comes with charger. Check Website dpreview.com
Since you're not a pro and are just looking for something simple to have fun with- I'd go with one of the many fine 'ultra zoom' cameras. Certainly a DSLR could be the best tool for the job, but they get heavy and expensive, and the size of the lens you'll need will cost you a fortune. In the $300 to $500 range there are some terrific choices for the amateur. Here are the reigning champions:

    Panasonic's FZ series (FZ8, FZ50)

    http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasoni鈥?/a>

    or the Canon S3IS

    http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canons3i鈥?/a>

    or Sony's H series (H2, H5)

    http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonyh5/

or the new H7, H9- now with 465mm effective zoom

or perhaps the new Olympus 550 SP550Uz, with 18x zoom out to 504mm (35mm effective).

    http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/olympuss鈥?/a>

Those are your choices. Basically- they're all good- it just all depends on what you want.

But if it's ok for wildlife covered in oil to be bathed w/ Dawn, why not ok for puppies?

Mom IS keeping them clean, but they are still laying in their pee thru the night. I've been towel-bathing them w/ just warm water, but it's time they were actually washed. All I'm thinking of doing is filling my sink about a 1/3 of the way w/ MAYBE a teaspoon worth of Dawn and ';bathing'; them that way - of course thoroughly rinsing and drying them. But if it's ok for wildlife covered in oil to be bathed w/ Dawn, why not ok for puppies?
The dawn is to strip out the oil that is why it is so good on the oil covered animals it is not that it is good for the always but just when they are covered in oil. It will also take the oil out of their skin and dry it up and then you will have a worse problem than the smell.

The best thing I have found is baby shampoo not a lot just about a 1/2 teaspoon in the water. don't put it right on their skin just in the water.

how old are they they really should not have a actual bath till at least 6 to 8 weeks. you can wipe them down like you are doing but covering them in water before 6 weeks is not really a good thing. but it is up to you of course.

they make puppy wipes that are basically like wet wipes.

there are times if mom is just not doing a good job and they are really bad then under 6 weeks is ok but just once not daily. good luckBut if it's ok for wildlife covered in oil to be bathed w/ Dawn, why not ok for puppies?
What part of COVERED IN CRUDE OIL MANAGES TO ELUDE YOU???????

What part they'll DIE if they aren't?

What part of ONLY A PIG-FILTHY BYB isn't *KEEPING* pups CLEAN by DAILY CHANGES OF BEDDING??? Their BLANKET *%26amp;* the newspaper!!!
LOL Dawn was used to get oil and grease off of them, not simply to clean them! Its a cheap way to clean hundreds of thousands of animals who would have died without it. The benefits clearly outweighed the risks in this situation. At home I wouldn't recommend it as it isn't the greatest for their skin or hair. Better to use some baby shampoo or puppy shampoo. You can get sample/travel size baby shampoo for under a dollar! The other stuff would sting if it got in the puppies poor eyes.
if you must bath them use johnson's baby shampoo. just the plain, original kind. it is mild and has no additives and nothing to cause any reactions, it will leave skin and coat in good condition
It's because of the alkalinity. Dogs need a neutral shampoo. No tears shampoo will work.
Because the pups are NOT covered in oil. Dawn is a de-greaser, so therefore this dish soap will take all the natural oil out of their skin.
Bedding in the whelping box needs to be changed daily. The mother will keep them clean enough, if you keep the box clean.
Dawn is fine for bathing puppies. Make sure they are extra thoroughly rinsed off before drying.

    Good Luck!
    Dawn is drying.

Wildlife experts are using it to break up the oil.

If your pups are laying in pee, you need to have a bigger area in your pen/box. One end should be blankets and toys, the other end should be a potty area.

Potty area can be a puppy litter box with poultry bedding, newspapers or puppy potty pads.

Its very important to teach pups from a young age how to keep clean and letting them sit in their waste is not it.

I usually wash my pups the first time at 6 weeks or so, using a very mild dog shampoo designed for pups. Its a good start for them to have a gentle bathing experience followed by grooming time and cuddle time... since some will grow to be show dogs and ALL need to be groomed throughout their lives.

I'm not washing them because they smell, though...
Dawn is ok if necessary. I use puppy shampoo and when they are under 6 weeks old I dilute the shampoo.

Make sure they are rinsed thoroughly and I use a hair dryer to be sure they are good and dry as they at a young age can't control their temp. Make sure they are out of any drafts.

My vet also suggest worming mom and pups ( get wormer from vet only) at 2,4,6,8 and 10 weeks old and htey should get their first vaccine at 6 weeks old
Dont use dawn, use dog/puppy shampoo. Dawn will strip their fur of its natural oils. You can use a mild shampoo but only once. Ive always been told if you run out of dog shampoo regular shampoo is ok, but not on a normal basis. When a dog lick themselves it putts a waterproofer like oil on their fur and when you wash them with human shampoo it takes off all these. So if you think about it, Dawn is a degreaser, so... bad idea. Not to mention theyre so small, maybe you could use baby shampoo??? They use Dawn on wildlife that get into oil infested water and stuff, to get all the oil off. Hope this helps:)
Obviously, the rescue workers who clean those animals are much more concerned about the oil than with allergic reactions or dry skin. Oil from oil spills is toxic, and inhibits the animal's natural behaviors like maintaining their body temperature and breathing, damages their digestive systems, and can smother them. I imagine you're thinking of those penguins and other birds, right? The oil sticks their feathers together. Being unable to fly (obviously doesn't apply to penguins), they cannot gather food and starve. They have trouble maintaining their temperature, resulting in hypothermia. The water repellent nature of their coat is damaged and they have difficult floating on the water, which may cause them to drown. If ingested, the oil will damage their kidneys and liver and cause pneumonia and anemia.

So, if your puppies fell in an oil spill recently, by all means, bathe them with Dawn. The point of this dish soap is that it strips all grease and oils from your dishes, leaving them nice and clean. That's why it's handy for removing oil from oil spill victims, because it's meant to remove grease. So guess what happens if your pet isn't covered in dangerous oil? The Dawn will still strip all the oils from their coat. Their natural oils, the ones that keep their skin and fur healthy, supple and lubricated. This isn't the end of the world, but if you can avoid giving your pet itchy, dry skin (especially if they're a tiny puppy with sensitive skin), why don't you?

Just use unscented, simple baby wipes. Problem solved. Ta-da.

If you really want to, you can just go to Petsmart and see if they have a shampoo that is safe for puppies that age. And if they don't, it's because they're sensitive-skinned little babies who should be be washed with chemical-ridden shampoo. Most safe, good shampoos (like Earthbath or whatever it's called) are safe for puppies as young as six weeks.

If you must bathe them and you have no adequate shampoo, a tiny little bit of baby shampoo would be more appropriate than dish soap. Pick up some Johnson's Baby Shampoo.

(Wow, writing that, I realized that ';oil'; is a freaking weird word. Look at it long enough and it's gibberish.)
Your dog could have a allergic reaction to the soap is one reason. Another is that when you use dish soap it strips the skin of important oils that the dogs fur needs which may cause the dog to lose its hair.. Pet shampoo is not that expensive so if you have to give them a bath use the pet shampoo.

The reason they wash oil spill victims in dawn soap is because dawn breaks down oil. Many oil spill victims still don't survive afterward.
Dawn IS fine for bathing puppies and kittens. Vets recommend it when very young puppies or kittens have fleas. It will strip the oils from the skin but it only takes a day or two for the natural skin oils to replenish. Its the safest thing you can use next to good ol Johnson's baby shampoo. Just don't use the dawn with bleach or the antibacterial. Plain old dawn.

If you have any worries about using it just use the baby shampoo. A big plus to that is the puppies will smell good and it wont hurt them if any gets in their eyes.
use baby wipes . or a baby shampoo
if they are under 3 weeks they have poor temperature control as ca become chilled (sometimes fatally) if they get too wet.

DIshwahing soap is rather drying too frequent washes would cause dry skin

Theoretical question:U think if pet/animal industry ended, alot more wildlife would be killed/kidnapped as pets?

That is in our mainly meat eating society, BLT hungry city folks for the first time would be taking to the woods in large numbers with all sorts of ammo. People denied dogs or cats would have squirrels, opossums for pets. The forests would be bereft of wildlife. Outdoors men would have to take up another hobby. You think this is a possible outcome ?

BTW I am not defending the animal industry by any means by posing this question.Theoretical question:U think if pet/animal industry ended, alot more wildlife would be killed/kidnapped as pets?
The area I live in has 0 pet stores and a lot of people allergic to dogs and cats who have actually in-cooperated squirrels, opossums, raccoon, groundhogs, etc. into household pets. So yes I think that people crave that connection with animals they do not get with people and I am almost 100% sure they would at least try to take any wild species and domesticate it.Theoretical question:U think if pet/animal industry ended, alot more wildlife would be killed/kidnapped as pets?
I think wild life probably would stage a Coo . Down here in Florida pythons people let go are upsetting the balance in the Glades. A Python tried to eat a gator who didn't go quietly so they both ended up dying. feral cats someone let go in the park, they attack some campers when trying to catch them. As long as people will pay thousands of dollars for the designers dogs, or get dog to make a fashion statement I feel the animal industry will be in business for a long time to come.

im looking for some sort of pet that i clould find outside in a field/garden ect.Is there any sort of wildlife/pet outside that i could keep as a pet?
Wild animals are best kept that way.

Many species are protected by law, wild populations are in decline everywhere, from frogs, newts, reptiles, mammals and birds. To many species have been decimated due to the wild life trade, for the pet markets

But may be you could put a trap out that captures live small mammals, like mice, you can buy them from hardware stores.

Make sure it is secure, you do not want it escaping into your house.

If you do by the way decide on capturing something bear in mind the time of year, please please avoid spring and the summer, most animals may be breeding at this time, last thing you want you want to-do is say capture a animal if it has young somewhere, you could put the whole of its family at risk !

But why bother when you can by small mammals like mice that are captive bred.Is there any sort of wildlife/pet outside that i could keep as a pet?
Don't keep any mammals as pretty much all wild ones carry some kind of disease or parasite. Also, it is illegal to keep any animal from the wild unless you are a certified wildlife rehaber. However, if you really wanted a pet you could find a salamander or frog. They are not endangered and will not cause you injury like a bird, rabbit, fox, or snake could.
You'd have a hard time keeping a wild animal as a proper pet for the sole reason of it being wild! If you're lucky enough to have a wild hedgehog living near you, you could put specific food out for it. Or if your garden is secure you may be able to 'rescue' a hedgehog that's been taken out of its original environment for safety reasons. To do this you need to contact your local wildlife rescue centre and enquire.

If you're just looking for a pet which lives outside, how about a tortoise? Or a rabbit? With either of these I'd definitely recommend reading up about the animal first to see whether it suits you and the environment you live in.
Put up a bird feeder with seeds and peanuts. It will attract all kinds of birds and squirrels for you to watch.

It's very important to leave wild life at a distance.

    Why?

    Disease.

Wildlife carries parasites and germs that are life threatening to humans.

Also, when wild animals start relying on handouts from humans, they forget how to forage for themselves. This leads to nuisance behavior like garbage raiding, and mauling house pets. BAD NEWS!

    Keep your distance from wildlife!
Do not - I repeat DO NOT take ANY reptiles from the wild to keep as 'pets' !

EVERY reptile native to the UK is now a PROTECTED species - and you can get into SERIOUS trouble if you're caught taking them from the wild !
I kept walking sticks all summer then let them go in fall.

Preying mantis too. They were very cool.

And I raised catepillars till they did the crysalis, counted the days they were in the shell then released them when they hatched.
a garden snake, a mouse, a babby bird, a lizard, praying mantice, cattipillar, rat.....
i am from tennesse and alot of people will keep racoons for pets. they are really nice pets. and rats they are better to keep care of then hampsters
Mosquitos, always stay on your hand as long as you give your blood never ask for any food.
depending on where you live u should have pets that are supposed to live with humans, its pretty crule and needs ALOT of work

Under Kentucky State law is it required for the Fish and Wildlife Department tp clearly mark their boundarys?

Sorry, i ran out of room so i had to miss spell boundaries. I need to know this to help in a legal matter and i have searched the states laws and statutes over on the website, and i am yet to find anything that would help. But anyway, thanks in advanced for your help!

later ~ nickUnder Kentucky State law is it required for the Fish and Wildlife Department tp clearly mark their boundarys?
To the best of my knowledge, they don't actually have to mark boundaries. It simply makes it easier for Fish and Wildlife employees and sportsmen to stay within, or outside of the property. I've researched this question own my own, and found very little information. Being a Kentucky resident and sportsman, it would make it much easier to avoid problems if it was a requirement. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any laws on the subject. The definition of ';reasonable'; notice is so vague that it is basically useless in this case. KRS (Kentucky Revised Statutes) and KAR (Kentucky Administrative Regulations) have no specifics on the subject that I've been able to find.

Best graduate school for Zoology, Wildlife Bio or Conservation Bio?

Ideally, I would like to go to a graduate school where I could work with animals. One that has a zoo, maybe? I am about to Graduate with a BS in Biology, Chem minor. I have the grades to get in just about anywhere, but money is a factor. Do any animal programs offer stipends?Best graduate school for Zoology, Wildlife Bio or Conservation Bio?
If your grades are that good, try for a National Science Foundation fellowship. I had a friend who kept getting them year after year. He had such a great set-up (living in the French Quarter of New Orleans) that he never wanted to get his degree. He had to be pushed out.

If your grades aren't THAT good, you can probably get research or teaching fellowships.

As far as which school to go to, I'm biassed toward Cornell University in all three fields. If I force myself to be honest, I must admit that there are dozens, if not hundreds, of good graduate schools. The only one with a zoo (well, a couple of live animals, anyway) that I know of is the U. of Michigan. At this point in your education, you shouldn't have to ask. Read the journals in your field and find articles of interest by people affilliated with a university. Essentially, you pick a faculty advisor, rather than a school. That will give you a short- list. Narrow the list down further by writing to the author. If you get no response, delete that school. If you get a detailed response, you are likely to get all the help you need with your own research from that person.Best graduate school for Zoology, Wildlife Bio or Conservation Bio?
Colorado State University (Zoology, Wildlife Bio, Conservation Bio)

Kansas State University (Zoology, Wildlife Bio, Conservation Bio)

University of Missouri (Zoology, Wildlife Bio)

University of Texas (Wildlife Bio, Conservation Bio)

Those are some of the better programs unless you think you can get into specific programs...they usually require a degree base prior anyway.
Wisconsin also has a great wildlife program, from what I've heard. Texas State does, too.

How did noah get all the animals on the ark 2 by 2 has no one watched a wildlife programe?

some ones gonna die and what a man to get them all there top bloke i reconHow did noah get all the animals on the ark 2 by 2 has no one watched a wildlife programe?
Some were brought on seven by seven, if you can believe it.How did noah get all the animals on the ark 2 by 2 has no one watched a wildlife programe?
Since the whole design of the Ark was supernaturally inspired, don't you think the gathering of the animals was the same? Noah and his helpers spent 120 years building the vessel and had no time for animal hunting but angels (or God, Himself) did that part for him. They (or God) also sealed the huge door once everyone was aboard.
ha ha it is a good question it is a fable told by man to explain how the earth was saved after the great flood , there are many fables in the bible The Bible contains page after page of history written in advance. The skeptic must come to grips with this evidence.and this from a believer
Exactly the bible has lots of flaws for exaple:

When jesus was born in winter the shepards brought him a lamb how does that work? arn't lambs born in spring?

Also Adam and Eve were the only people on earth, correct? They had three sons one died and the other to went out the find wives. Were did they find them if Adam, Eve and their sons where the only humans on earth. Who did they shack up with? A sheep?

    Hope I helped

    Nina x
Noah did not bring the animals into the ark. It was God, and I think he let angels do the job. What happened was a mighty sign to people that had ridiculed Noah, still pride prevented them from going into the ark themselves.
Were you to actually read the Bible, it states that the animals came to Noah. He didn't go wrangling anything. God did tell him to take the animals, but never told him to go and get them.
They must have had an entire floor set aside for provisions and all the various types of food all the animals ate. PLUS tons and tons of fresh water.
He used Wiccan spells to make them behave while they all got on the ark to be safe. And then later on the story would live on as the great flood that God made, and we would revere God.
The animal followed Noah into the ark. What about that?
God was with Him. God enabled the animals to do that. :)
maybe Noah was like Steve Irwin.... collecting animals and put them in the Ark.
    God brought them to him.
    Maybe it isn't true.

I didn't quite follow their logic, but they said elk now are too afraid to approach the waters edge, a great ambush spot for wolves and defenseless place to be for running. How can I take up a profession in wildlife research?

There are likely any number of ways to go about it, but I'd think an academic degree or at least studies in biology first would be a good idea. My stepdaughter studied biology at a small college in Florida. She applied for a summer internship with a wildlife center and there she worked with Jane Goodall, the woman who researched wild gorillas and lived with them. However, my stepdaughter was intent on following a course to become a veterinarian, which she now is, but I know she's not forgotten her wildlife experience in college. How can I take up a profession in wildlife research?
I go to Purdue University and my major is wildlife biology and I am minoring in pre-veterinary medicine. You can contact some colleges that offer a wildlife program and see if someone there can help you. If you DON'T want to go to college, then I'm not sure what you can do. You could just become a self-proclaimed biologist by doing your own field research and interning at wildlife centers. Hope that helped. Good luck!

i'm doing a project on NWF, and i cant any history on the site aside from the brief one from Wiki

thanks in advanceWhat's the history of the National Wildlife Federation?
On March 1, 1934, President Franklin Roosevelt appointed political cartoonist Jay Norwood ';Ding'; Darling to be chief of the U.S. Biological Survey. Darling urged the president to convene a conference in Washington D.C. to bring together individuals, organizations and agencies interested in the restoration and conservation of wildlife resources. Even then, America's land, water and wildlife were threatened. Recognizing the link between the people's health, the environment and our quality of life, conference participants set out to protect them all. They understood that it would take millions of informed, motivated people to do the job.

The conference took place from February 3-7, 1936 and was called the North American Wildlife Conference. Darling resigned his position with the Biological Survey just before the conference.

At this conference an organization was created and was called the General Wildlife Federation. Darling was elected president. The first annual meeting was held March 3, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri. The General Wildlife Federation became the National Wildlife Federation in 1938.

Gap year traveling and helping wildlife programes?

My friend is taking a year out and wants to travel the world but also take part in different wildlife conservation programmes both paid and voluntary. Is it possible take part in more than one programme i.e:Helping endangered orangutans. The programmes she's found each cost around 拢500 up not including flights dose anybody know any cheaper wildlife conservation programmes that might also include flight or accommodation? many thanksGap year traveling and helping wildlife programes?
I did the same as your friend. I worked for the orangutan foundation in Borneo for 6 weeks, which cost 600 pounds. It sounds a lot but it includes absolutely everything (food, accomodation, transport, etc.) for the 6 weeks - you just have to get yourself to the nearest town.

I also worked for 4 weeks at a place called Elephant Nature Park near Chiang Mai, Thailand for 4 weeks, which costs 200 pounds a week (you can go for 1 - 4 weeks) and that also includes everything apart from getting to Chiang Mai.

I haven't heard of any conservation programmes that include flights as they are all charity based and at the end of the day it would be cheaper to employ local people than fly westerners to these places. A good place to get flights is expedia.com where you can book round trips which are cheaper than individual flights.

If you want to ask me any questions about these, then go ahead.Gap year traveling and helping wildlife programes?
    They generally are pretty expensive.

I wanted do do voluntary work in an orangutan rehabilitation centre for just 2 weeks and it was costing the best part of a grand!

    (Also no flights included)

I've had to hold it off until i can save up enough money, but being a poor student and only working part time means the poor orange fellas will have to wait some time for my help :(

However you can opt for a different package.

The cheaper ones are usually involving sealife- mainly turtles.

Devices to mount on vehicle to distract wildlife?

Are there any devices out there to mount on a vehicle that gives off a sound that discourages wildlife from running out in front of your vehicleDevices to mount on vehicle to distract wildlife?
Yes, there are things to use. Personally, I have 2 mounted on the grill on my RV. It's a whistle (humans don't hear ir) that deer hear and steer clear of me. I assume it works because I haven't hit one yet. Look at the pet store/ auto parts store.Devices to mount on vehicle to distract wildlife?
There are lots of devices out there. But research has shown that they are ineffective. In some cases, they have even been shown to increase the danger of collision.

The best solution is the same as it has always been - drive with extra care in areas that have high wildlife populations.
you can buy little plastic whistles that mount on your bumper that are advertised to scare deer %26amp; other animals.

on the other hand deer %26amp; other animals run into %26amp; are hit every day by very noisy vehicles such as semi's,ambulances %26amp; fire trucks with their sirens going full blast, motorcycles with straight pipes etc so you're actually just wasting your money on the silent whistles.
Yes they are available for a very few $$ from an auto store. You mount them on the front bumper area and the wind creates the sound which is silent to us.

Why dont people appreciate how much are wildlife is so important to us.?

i could cry sometimes the way people disregard everything that at the end of the day keeps them alive. I'm upset please tell me there are other people out there that feel the same. Why dont people appreciate how much are wildlife is so important to us.?
I'd say because they're ignorant and probably don't appreciate much, not just wildlife. It is bad when animals aren't appreciated or taken care of because a lot of them count on humans to take care of them and make sure they're safe, and then we turn around and kill and eat them and things like that. Trees are cut down for malls and housing (like we need more malls). It's all about money and greed I think, and a huge power trip. You get this nice world and what happens? We screw it up and ruin it all.Why dont people appreciate how much are wildlife is so important to us.?
i love our wildlife and i always try to help, feeding birds, helping hedgehogs,or having a go at people who hunt foxes
you are talking about a minority not a majority
Humans are under the assumption that because earth was created for us, we can do what we like with no consequences. In my opinion, they will never change because the majority of the world is quite selfish. If everyone would take care of their own little corner of this world, we wouldn't have so many issues. Humans have the power to change the way things are going, animals becoming extinct, plants dying out at alarming numbers, wetlands disappearing, rain forests, the list goes on and on. Until they learn that nature is what sustains things here, it will continue to go down hill.
I agree. I cried for two days when my soon to be exhusband ran over a little 'wiene' dog' in the street. He claimed, ';I didn't see it. I'm not wrecking the car for a d - - dog!!!'; I had to try to explain THAT to my kids!!! He's not the only one. What shocks ME is when I meet GIRLS/WOMEN have the same attitude. We're suppose to be known to be gentle especially when it comes to animals!!
Probably like everything , people dont appreciate what theyve got till its gone . Sad really
Hi, Yes nature is important and there are some people who disregard the value in what is around them-

Just cherish and enjoy what you know about nature and don't worry about the other people who don't appreciate it/
There are plenty of people who appreciate our wildlife and the beauty of this wonderful planet on which we all live. It is a pity man is a bit slow in looking after that which gives us life.

    What is wildlife conservation?

I have to do a project on this an dont understand what it is.What is wildlife conservation?
Wildlife conservation is to protect species and their habitat from excessive extinction. In a conservation area, there is absolutely no hunting, trapping or killing any wildlife. They are completely protected in these areas. What is wildlife conservation?
That's were you shoot something and put it in the freezer to eat later.

';Excessive extinction?'; is that were a species gets wipe out twice?
it means to protect a species or many species of animals as well as the environment were they inhabit so they wont go extinct

What are the paintballs made out of? Are they safe for fish and wildlife?

Paintballs contain primarily polyethylene glycol, other non-toxic and water-soluble substances, and dye. Paintballs are made of materials found in food and are edible. What are the paintballs made out of? Are they safe for fish and wildlife?
They are suppossedly non-toxic and safe to the environment..however it is not safe for fish, wildlife and birds, when the paintballers shoot directly at them,or when they knock down or crush birds nests while running around, and dragging mattresses, boards, and other junk/waste to build fortresses in pristine wildlife areas. Beginning wildlife photography?

I do not really know to much about photography yet, but I am trying to learn on my own. I am interested in taking wildlife photography but not to sure on which camera I should get. I do not have much money. Im still in college and just want to take pictures in my spare time, so what would be the best camera for wildlife photography on a budget. Thanks for any help.Beginning wildlife photography?
buy the best digital SLR you can afford

you then need a long lens and a mono pod and tripod

the faster the lens the better but the more expensive

i prefer Minolta and Sony as the anti shake is in the camera making for steadier hand holding and cheaper lensesBeginning wildlife photography?
Sounds like fun. Your best bet is an old SLR (single lens reflex) film camera like a canon AE-1. You can pick one up for about $25-$35 or less (lens included). Get a 50mm lens (50mm is how the eye sees things). Once you've learned how to operate it you can invest in a digital SLR %26amp; fancy lenses.

Don't waste $$ on classes, you can pick up a book (John Hedgcoe is a good author to check out) with all the info you need. Experiment with different shutter speeds %26amp; aperture settings as well as film speeds and types.

Wildlife photographers generally have fast zoom lenses like a 75-300 which enables them to hide from animals %26amp; still get close-up shots. The f-stop of a lens tells you how ';fast'; the lens is. In other words, a lens with an f-stop of 1.8 is faster than one with an f-stop of 3.5. It is faster because you can shoot at a higher shutter speed because your aperture can open to 1.8. You might have to shoot a slower shutter speed for proper exposure if you can only open to 3.5. Faster shutter speeds enable you to photograph the moving wings of a bird, for instance.

Camera store employees can be particuarly helpful in answering specific questions about how to shoot well. Check out your local camera shop when they're not busy %26amp; they should be able to guide you.

    Have fun!
Starting out on a budge means that you must make compromises on what you can get. There's no getting around that.

Almost everyone is going to suggest digital technology. I understand that it's the ';way of the future'; but, film ain't dead yet and it is still an option to consider, particularly when film still has a greater dynamic range over digital sensors, and it's cheaper to start off with (you don't need a printer, a computer, programs for the computer, batteries and chargers, memory cards, expensive camera that is outdated in a year, expensive paper and expensive inks, archival issues, dust issues, etc).

Digital technology is over-priced and what you can get with $600 ain't worth it; you will get so much more with that money by going with film and you will learn more with a versatile camera than with an inexpensive digital camera and fewer lens capacity (you can't buy a good digital camera and a good lens with that kind of money).

So, let's get to the nitty-gritty. What you're going to learn with a film camera will carry over to digital technology. ISO, aperture, shutter speeds, depth of field, how to compose, how to crop, differences in lenses, filters, lighting, etc (a lot more).

You're on a very limited budget? OK, go to www.keh.com and look for the Nikon N80. This camera is the best camera ever made for learning! You can use it fully manual where you set the aperture and shutter speed and you can either focus manually or let the camera focus for you. You can use it on Aperture Priority where you set the desired aperture (to control the depth of field, to cause blurring on purpose to show motion or to get crisp sharp images) and it sets the correct shutter speed for you automatically; or, you can use it on Shutter Speed priority where you set the desired shutter speed and it will set the correct aperture automatically. And you can either let it focus for you or you focus manually. OR, you can select fully automatic mode where you press the shutter button halfway down and it focuses for you and sets the aperture and shutter speed for you automatically (or you can focus manually if you prefer). It also has three types of light metering: average (also called Center-Weight Metering), or Spot Metering or 3D Matrix Metering. The camera also has a built-in strobe light that is good up to about 5 feet (also great for fill-in light to prevent you from getting a silhouette of your subjects if they're standing with the sun or light coming from behind them). There's also an on-demand (along with other features) grid line to help you level the horizon in landscape or seascape photography. This camera is the little sister to the professional-level Nikon F100, and it has many similar features to it. It is the perfect camera for learning. It is also built like a little tank, and it is ergonomically built to fit your hands comfortably and you can easily locate all of the knobs, switches and buttons which are clearly marked. Oh, it also has a diopter adjustment lever for those with visual problems. It has a very large and clear viewfinder.

I would recommend that you get the the most popular and most versatile lens made by Nikon: the Nikkor AF 28-105mm f/3.5-5.6D macro zoom lens which you can use as a wide angle lens (28-35), as a regular lens (45-55mm) as a portrait lens (80-90), a short telephoto lens 90-105mm) and as a macro-photography lens! If you find this lens too expensive, then look for the Nikkor AF 35-105mm f/3.5-5.6D macro zoom lens which is as versatile and well-built as the previous lens mentioned and it is also a macro lens (make sure it says ';macro'; when you buy it... there's a non-macro lens, too).

Now, lastly, I will recommend that you go out of your way and get the lifesaver lens: the Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.8D lens. This little wonder will bail you out of many difficult spots when you find yourself in low light situations! It costs about $75-80 used.

You really NEED a long and ';fast'; lens for wildlife photography but you can't get it on that budget. What I suggest is that you get Nikon's Nikkor AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6D and and work on bright days and make use of the light as best as you can. Get a tripod, you WILL need it, too (something like the Sunpak ';Ultra'; 757B, cost: $79)(this is a very cheap but sturdy tripod).

It is important that you also get Thom Hogan's Book on the Nikon N80/F80; this is the foremost authority on the camera! You will be SO glad that you got it; it is full of tips and shortcuts and GREAT suggestions and fantastic explanations, too!

I will suggest that you get a UV filter for each and every lens to protect it from airborne dust and dirt and accidental fingerprints. It is easier to replace a $15 filter than a more expensive lens!

Buy only Nikkor brand lenses. Stay away from those crappy generics. Nikkor lenses retain higher resale prices than generics because they have superior build and superior glass formulas, which yield superior image details upon enlarging, as you will discover if you go with the generics (you get what you pay for).

I recommend that you take a Beginner's Photography Class at any YMCA/YWCA, YMHA/YWHA, Boys Club or Girls' Club or any college that offers photography classes through their Adult, Evening %26amp; Continuting Department. These classes are so well organized that what you learn in a few sessions will far outweigh what you can learn with several books in several months. Plus, you'll get feedback from your instructor and your classmates (this is not conducted like a high school classroom but more like an informal group of people sitting around listening to someone talk and give information, and you get to ask questions). It will be a lot of fun and you will be glad you took it.

That is what I will suggest. Good luck and best wishes.
I recommend the Olympus evolt e300 or e500. I have the 500 and if you look at my site under photography, and either LA Zoo or Balboa Lake you will find pictures I got with it.

    http://www.silvaspoon.net

Under the cameras page you will also find links to deals on cameras. Another route would be to haunt ebay and use a sniping service.

I think the Olympus is as good as the Canon, and usually goes for slightly less money.
How about joining a local photography club and getting some advice from the members.

You can look at the difference between the cameras used in the club and decide which you prefer to work with.

You may even be able to pick up a secondhand one at a good price from another member.
Film or digital? Either way the canon rebel comes in both and is pretty inexpesive as far as cameras go.
I am not sure on what to advise you on this subject but this site will help you.http://www.outdooreyes.com/wildlifephoto鈥?/a>

  • Where would be a good summer wildlife internship?

I want to do a 3 month internship next summer at a wildlife conservation center in the US. I will be 19 next summer, in college. Allot of wildlife websites say that they want people who are majoring in wildlife related fields. Right now Im going to major in nursing, but I want to do an internship to see if I should change my mind about what I want to do with my life. Should I still try doing it?Where would be a good summer wildlife internship?
I teach at a college where many of our students are wildlife majors. They often get internships through the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, but these are very competitive internships and if you don't have an educational background in wildlife, you're at a disadvantage. My recommendation would be to find a graduate student who is doing some wildlife research and needs help. Explain that you are a hard worker and willing to do the grunt work necessary and you stand a good chance at getting hired (especially if you're willing to work for free).

The way to find these graduate students is to go to the wildlife or biology departments at your college and ask around. Sometimes they will even put up flyers in the buildings advertising they need help.Where would be a good summer wildlife internship?

Gap year traveling and helping wildlife programes?

My friend is taking a year out and wants to travel the world but also take part in different wildlife conservation programmes both paid and voluntary. Is it possible take part in more than one programme i.e:Helping endangered orangutans. The programmes she's found each cost around 拢500 up not including flights those anybody know any cheaper wildlife conservation programmes that might also include flight or accommodation? many thanksGap year traveling and helping wildlife programes?
It depend exactly as to where you are thinking of travaling and at what time of year to what programs are avaliable, but it is possible to do more than 1 program but not at the same time as most programs (both voluntaryand paid) are full time. However if you are taking a year out then you could do many programs as you travel around. One thing to consider is the cost though. I would say that 拢500 is quite cheap but it depends on how long that is for. There are some voluntary programs in africa and places that are two weeks long and include accomodation and food, but does not include flights. These cost around 拢795 up for voluntary work.

There are many conservation programs and a good site to visit is

    www.realgap.co.uk

This site has both volunteer programs and paid work for around 拢330 plus in a variety of countries worldwide. Most of these programs include accomodation and food, but not flights.Gap year traveling and helping wildlife programes?
Some of the best places to go are the ones that aren't 'on the tourist map'. If you can find some and contact directly and SAFELY go there directly you will save huge amounts of money and your money will go directly to the place rather than a agency or company.

If it means paying more for safety though then pay it.. its not worth your safety.

Avoid turtles, dolphins, monkeys and coral conservation - go for the more obscure and itll be cheaper. Something in britain or abroad; ie. mangroves or coastlines or an ugly animal that doesnt have the 'cute' appeal.. itll save you a fortune and is almost more worthwhile because it doesnt have the press and so people dont go there so much.
I have a book for you:

Is there anywhere in texas that allows you to feed tigers and get up close to othere wildlife such as monkeys?

Years ago I went to the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch in New Braunfels, Tx. This is a a drive thorugh wildlife safari. You can purchase food to feed the animals, and I recall a petting zoo for the kids. I am a kid at heart, so I enjoyed this too. Trust me, the animals know that the cars driving through often means that its dinner time, so they will come up to your car. It is a good idea to buy some food for the animals before driving through.

The ostriches were aggressive about getting fed, and it was pretty funny. I will include the website.

First...enjoy being a kid. There's no need to rush into getting a job unless you absolutely have to.

But if you are interested: your State's Game Commission will often have work shops and volunteer affairs for you to participate in.

You can always pick up trash along a highway or stream, it helps a lot with wildlife habitat improvement.

Get information for your local nesting birds, and then build nesting boxes to match the appropriate species.

There's always stuff you can do to benefit wildlife.Wildlife jobs for a 14 year old?
Since you're only 14, it'll be hard finding a job period, let alone a job of your liking.

With that in mind, I would suggest you begin as a volunteer worker somewhere. I'm sure there are numerous places that could use help. Shelters and animal rescues generally need assistance, BUT you must be prepared to face the facts of life in regards to the animals' lives as well(euthanasia, animals that come in harmed due to people beating them, diseased animals, ect)

It isn't pretty (and hard to stomach for me), but its also rewarding in regards to the animals lives that you do change/help.

    good luck.

ALSO to the member above me who said animals have no souls ...

People like you should not have the ability to procreate. I firmly believe that ';the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.'; (ghandi)

I hope you do not own any pets, or have any children, although I can't imagine anyone would want to mate with someone who doesn't see animals as amazing creatures with emotions, SOULS, ect.

We are camping at just normal campsites, not the backcountry ones.

thank you very much!Yellowstone Naitonal Park Campsite Wildlife Danger Question?
The biggest killer of tourist in Yellowstone every year are the bison. People walk up to them because they look docile. They have bad eyesight and they don't see you coming. A bull bison can stand six feet tall, weigh up to 2,000 pounds and run up to 30 miles an hour. For several weeks each year they are extremely dangerous because it's their mating season.

Park regulations require people to stay at least 25 yards away from most animals, like bison and elk, and at least 100 yards away from bears and wolves at all times. Tourists caught being too close can face a citation and fine.

I was in a parking lot viewing two bulls fighting for territory. In a flash one of the bulls ran up a hill into the parking lot and ran over a car. People were running in all directions. I could not believe how fast it moved. There was no time to react and get out of the way.

We're on kind of a budget so maybe one that costs no more than 20$ - 30$ per personWhich is the best wildlife park in Sydney?
Taronga zooWhich is the best wildlife park in Sydney?
    Hi there

If you are prepared to go outside of Sydney, I think Featherdale wildlife park is fab. It's on the way to the Blue Mountains and is a great first stop off if you are planning to go there. It'a about 30 minutes out of Sydney. A few of the tour operators incorporate the wildlife park for the Blue Mountains.

What I like about it is that you can see all the Australian animals under one roof. It's $22 to get in, you can stroke the Koalas and feed the Kangaroos.

There is a new wildlife centre opened in the centre of Sydney near the Aquarium but I have heard mixed reports. Taronga zoo offers spectacular views over the city and has elephants and giraffes etc as well as some Australian animals. You can also take a ferry over which is lovely. You'll pay more to get in here though - $41.

For more information on what to do in Sydney check out http://www.realaustraliatravel.com/trave鈥?/a>

    Have a great trip

    Johanna
Taronga Zoo is good but will cost you more then that. The Sydney Wildlife Park is a little cheaper.

The cheaper parks though are out of the city so you would need to add travelling expenses. I like Symbio which is just south of Sydney.

I'd pay a little extra and go to Taronga if I were you, bring your own lunch and drinks and it won't be too bad.

Why do we need to drill in ANWR and can it be done without disrupting the wildlife?

To use the analogy of the first responder, if the Alaskan North Slope oil exploration area were Gillette Stadium, ANWR would be a postage stamp. Nobody would notice if we were getting a trickle more oil from there. Why do we need to drill in ANWR and can it be done without disrupting the wildlife?
yes, the caribou will adjust their migration routes as they would if mother nature had altered the terrain. new methods assure safety. Nigeria drill in their country and is able to export oil and benefit their people.

Alaskans are for drilling and most move there for the beauty so i don't think they would be agreeable if they thought it would be anything other than a positive impact.

it would take five years, or more, to actually produce oil and gas. however; the immediate effect would be that speculators would relax and that would lower prices today, right now.Why do we need to drill in ANWR and can it be done without disrupting the wildlife?
There's oil there, and we need to increase the supply to decrease the prices. And the amount of land we'd be using to drill on is extremely small in comparison to the total size of ANWR. It won't affect the wildlife there, primarily because there isn't much to affect. It's a vast wasteland.
Yes, it can be done without affecting the wildlife. Case and point are the populations of caribou already along the Alaskan Pipeline and the exceptional marine life that exists around the oil drilling platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.

The reason for the need to drill are obvious.
Alaska and our coasts have a lot of oil in them. The environmentalist said that the Alaska pipeline would ruin Alaska and kill the wild life. Haven't seen that happen yet.

Fact is that they population of the animals has actually increased. The hang out near the pipeline for the warmth, which means that more can survive each year. There are articles on this.

    So yes to your questions.
Thars oil in them thar hills. Wildlife suffer from various things from disease, other wildlife, and weather related events. The idea that this would be so hard on them is a smokescreen.
If ANWR were Gillette Stadium, the area in which they would drill is a postage stamp.

The caribou won't even know they're there.
Because we need the oil! Yes it can be done without very little impact on the environment... it will just hurt Liberal bleeding hearts
';If ANWR were Gillette Stadium, the area in which they would drill is a postage stamp.

    The caribou won't even know they're there.';

You'll be amazed at how many people stop their cars in the middle of the road and start taking pictures a few feet from bears, elk, and bison. Bad idea!

Take a look at the morons in this video who walk up to a bison with their kids!
