What is the Alaskan cruise like? Do you get to see much wildlife on it?

I went on an Alaskan cruise in June 1999 and had a great time. We started in Anchorage and had a couple of days to ourselves before the land portion began, so we spent one day at Seward, Exit Glacier, and the Kenai Fjords and then another going above the Arctic Circle to Kotzebu and then down to Nome.

We took a boat tour at Kenai Fjords and watched glaciers calving, saw puffins, other birds, and seals. We also saw some whales -- humpback and killer.

We did a land tour that went through Denali -- where we saw black and brown (grizzly) bears, moose, a fox, caribou, etc. -- and several other towns before hitting Seward and embarking on a tour of the Inside Passage.

On the Inside Passage portion we saw a ton of bald eagles, as well as more whales. We had a really good time. Just FYI, the vast majority of Alaskan cruisers are retirees.
