so i LOVE the show growing up on animal planet and i want to work somewhere like that when i grow up, im not sure if i want a wildlife conservation place or a specific animal, and im not sure what i should look into more to see if this is really what i want to do. i also want to know what i should be looking into education wise if i do decide to do this, which i think i willWhat major should i go into if i want to work in some sort of wildlife conservation place?
There are lots of options. But be forewarned, wildlife conservation is a very hard field to get into. You'll need an internship during college, and volunteer work at a zoo or park will also help. Most wildlife conservation places I know of require a masters degree to do anything more than mop floors and take out the trash, so plan on a lot of schooling.
To start off with your undergrad work, any of the following majors will help you: zoology, ecology, biology, botany, wildlife conservation, wildlife management. There are plenty others, but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Each one is a little different so you'll have to look into what they focus on and what exactly you want to do - do you want to take care of wild animals, rehabilitate them, run a shelter, teach people about them, and so forth and so on. There are lots of different things you can do to be involved with animals and only you can decide which is best.
Once you get through your undergrad work you can start looking at masters programs. Usually it's best not to specialize in specific animals too much so you have a better chance of finding work, but you won't have the chance to specialize a whole lot until you have a bachelor's degree anyway.
I hope that helps! Good luck! What major should i go into if i want to work in some sort of wildlife conservation place?
I would recommend getting a degree in biology, wildlife management or ecology and organismal biology. You can then get a graduate degree in a higher field. I also recommend a strong background in animal behavior for a career like that.
